| Setubal Overview |
Setubal is an industrial area and is often overlooked by the visitor heading to the Algarve beaches. But the town has a rich history and enjoys some historical Roman sites including a fine castle.
The town itself has a fine stretch of sandy beach and lots of interesting and colourful little alleys tucked away in it's heart. Setubal is the ideal base for the fine beach resorts and villages of the mountainous Serra da Arrabida nearby. |
| Setubal Essentials |
Castelo de Sao Filipe - This is the big drawcard to the town and is located just outside of town in a spectacular hill. The history is long and chequered and the view is tremendous.
Igreja de Jesus - This 15th century church at the western end of town is decorated in maritime style. Not the run of the mill ancient church.
Trola Peninsula - A fantastic area just a 15 minute ferry ride from Setubal. This magnificent peninsula boasts some beautiful beaches to investigate.
Parque Natural da Arrabida - Just to the west of town this park includes a variety of trails for the walker or serious hiker. Guide books are available at tourist information.
The Moscatel Roxo - These are the local wine producers and are based in town. The distinct sweet red , herby wine is available to purchase or you can tour a number of wineries. |
