| Buses are cheap but car hire is cheap too! What a pleasure driving to all them out of way places, real cool. Portimao and the people there was awesome, so friendly like. |

Portimao is a great place to visit all year round because of the mild climate, warm waters, plenty of sports and cultural attractions of the area. The nearby beaches are some of the finest in the Algarve and keen golfers will not be disappointed, also bird watchers will enjoy the fantastic nature reserve.
The height of the season tends to get a wee bit crowded, but there are lots of opportunities to explore quieter areas. |

Ria de Alvor - This nature reserve is a birders paradise. There are hiking trails and quiet hideaways in the dunes to observe the regular breeds and migratory birds.
Gastromony - Sardine are a staple here and are cooked in a variety of ways, soup is always enjoyed hot or cold. Chicken peri - peri, home made bread and sausage are also on the menu.
Penina Golf Course - The Algarve is renowned for it's Golf courses and Portimao is proud to house one of the finest in Penina. This will give the keen golfer a good test of skill.
Municipal Museum - The towns museum hosts exhibitions to document the town's past. There is also a museum in nearby Alvor that shows the everyday life in days gone by.
Alvor - The pretty little fishing village near to Portimao has an interesting past as a port, and is a quiet place to get away from the busy town. |
