Lagos is the capital of the Algarve and a magnet for sunseekers. The coast is laced with cliffs and promiteries. The beaches as well, are some of the finest in the Algarve.
There is much history connected to Lagos, so the visitor does not just have to come for the beaches and nightlife.The natural bay has been the scene of numourous invasions and the slave trade flourished here in the 15th century.
A break here will ensure a good balance between sun and sand and culture. |

Fortaleza da Porta da Bandeira - A 17th century fortress overlooking the marina. Lagos and her proud maritime past are on show here.
Mercado de Escravos - This is the old slave market and African slaves were first sold here in 1441. Today it's a modern marina, that offers all sorts of water sports.
Praia de Pinhao - The stunning beach is about 20 minutes drive from town, but is less crowded, with spectacular cliffs hiding beautiful sandy coves.
Esplanade - Its worth while strolling the length of this fine esplanade. While staring out to sea, you can buy fresh fish and seafood at the old market.
