Braga Overview |
Braga is set in a most beautiful and lush part of Portugal and is best known as the religious capitol of the country. The city is completely littered with monuments, gardens, museums and palace's.
Today the city is home to a population which consist of around 65,000 inhabitants. It sports an amazing nightlife, which is probably due to the fact that there are many young people around - it has even been baptized the "miniature Lisbon" in recent years. |

Braga Essentials |
Bom Jesus do Monte - A gorgeous hilltop pilgrimage site, which contains beautiful gardens, grottos, amazing sculptures, fountains and beautiful little chapels.
Museu dos Biscainhos - The museums housed in 17th century Biscainhos Palace. Items which are on display include goods such as traditional Portuguese furniture, pottery, glassware, silverware and textiles, as well as Oriental and Dutch porcelain.
Se Cathedral - The cathedral was built by Henri de Bourgogne and Dona Teresa in the 12th century. One of the particular highlights is a statue of the Virgin breast-feeding baby Jesus.
The Museum of Sacred Art - The museum is housed within the walls of the Se Cathedral. It contains a collection of Braga's most precious and significant art. One of the most significant items on display is a statue of the Virgin which dates back to the 14th century.
Parque Nacional da Peneda-Geres - The park was established in 1971 and has become one of the favourite places for hiking, horseback-riding and bird-watching in Portugal. |

Braga Calendar - Pick of the Year's Events |
Holy Week in Braga - The festival is held annually from the 4th to 11th of April. Holy week is considered by the people of Braga as a time for praying, processions and parties.
All Souls' Day - Dia de Finados - The festival day is held annually on the 1st of November. It is generally celebrated throughout Portugal and is a day which is set aside to commemorate person's who have passed away, by means of laying flowers on family graves. |
